Tim Howar will lead the new cast of The Phantom of the Opera in the West End, it has been announced.

Howar, who recently starred in Chess at the London Coliseum, will play the Phantom from September, replacing Ben Lewis. Howar is scheduled to appear until December 8.

Producer Cameron Mackintosh said: “Tim Howar’s exciting vocal take on the iconic score of the Phantom brings a contemporary, fresh approach to this legendary role which blew us away at his audition.”

Kimberly Blake and Ross Dawes will also join the cast, playing Carlotta Giudicelli and Monsieur Firmin respectively.

They will all join the cast on September 3, as the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical enters its 33rd year in the West End.

Kelly Mathieson will continue as Christine Daae, as will Jeremy Taylor as Raoul.

The Phantom of the Opera is running at Her Majesty’s Theatre and is currently booking until March 2019.
