Plans have been announced for a new 140-seat studio theatre in Staffordshire.
The theatre is part of a proposed canal-side development in the town of Stone, which will also include a coffee shop, pub and tourist information centre.
It will be run by local theatre group the Stone Revellers, with plans for professional performances to take place in the purpose-built venue, which also will be used as a community cinema.
Joule’s Brewery is behind the plans, which have been submitted to the local council for consultation before an application for planning permission is made.
Leo Caperanos, a member of the Stone Revellers Theatrical Society, said: “While it will be fundamental for Stone Revellers to keep producing great local theatre for another 40 years, we also envisage this high-quality theatre space to be a facility for the whole town.
“Alongside a community cinema, we are confident many different community groups, local schools and budding creatives will benefit from having a quality facility on the doorstep.”
The theatre is due to open in April 2020.
