Smash star Katharine McPhee to lead UK cast of Waitress
Smash star Katharine McPhee is to make her West End debut in the musical Waitress.
The show, written by Sara Bareilles, will open at the Adelphi Theatre in March.
McPhee, who was a contestant on American Idol and starred in the US musical theatre series Smash, will play Jenna, a pie maker who “dreams of a way out of her loveless marriage”.
McPhee played the role on Broadway earlier this year.
When it opens in the UK, the show will become the first West End musical to have an all-female creative team. Alongside Bareilles, the show has direction by Diane Paulus, choreography by Lorin Latarro, and a book by Jessie Nelson.
It will begin previewing from February 8, with an opening night on March 7.
It is currently in its third year on Broadway.
The musical is produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, and Norton and Elayne Herrick.
