Theatre company Slung Low is to create a two-day conference that will be held in the open air, in a bid to encourage debate that is “free of the usual distractions and usual frustrations”.

Arts Council England is funding the event, called Wild Conference, and will provide a grant of up to £100,000 for it.

It said its aim was to bring industry thinkers together in a space “devoid of meeting rooms and suits” that it hopes will inspire “creative solutions to pressures facing the arts and cultural sector”.

ACE deputy chief executive of arts and culture Simon Mellor said: “After three successful editions of No Boundaries we wanted to re-imagine what a national event of this nature could be like – and to help provoke and challenge current and future leaders from arts, museums and libraries to come up with new ideas for how we should be doing things in the sector going forward.”

He added: “Slung Low’s iconoclastic approach offers the perfect platform to do this and we are excited to be supporting them to create Wild Conference next year.”

Slung Low artistic director Alan Lane said his company was currently devising a space “free of the usual distractions, usual frustrations, usual limitations”.

“A space that encourages new thought, free thought, even – we hope – wild thought,” he added.

The conference will take place on July 4 and 5, 2019.
