Mikaela Bennett is to replace Sierra Boggess in the role of Maria for the BBC Proms production of West Side Story.

Boggess pulled out of the production earlier this year, following backlash at the role not being played by a Latina performer.

Bennett is a recent graduate of the Juliard School in New York, and has performed in West Side Story in the US.

Others in the cast include the previously announced Ross Lekites, alongside Eden Espinosa, who has appeared in Wicked on Broadway, as Anita.

The cast also includes Alistair Brammer, Fra Fee, Leo Roberts and Michael Colbourne.

The concert production of the Bernstein musical, led by the John Wilson Orchestra, takes place on August 11, at 3.30pm and 8.00pm.
