Ruthless! The Musical to get first major UK production
The musical which launched the careers of Britney Spears and Natalie Portman will have its first major UK production in London this March.
All-female show Ruthless! The Musical spoofs Broadway musicals including Gypsy and Mame and tells the story of an eight-year-old performer battling to secure the lead role in her school play.
The musical began life Off-Broadway in 1992, starring Laura Bell Bundy as the central character, which was understudied by Spears and Portman.
The musical is by Joel Paley and Marvin Laird, and will be directed by Richard Fitch at the Arts Theatre for its first major production in the UK.
A fringe production of the show ran at Stratford Circus in 2002.
It is choreographed by Rebecca Howell, with design by Morgan Large, lighting by Tim Lutkin and sound by Gregory Clarke. Gareth Valentine will be musical supervisor.
The production is runs from March 16 to June 23, with press night on March 27.
It is produced by Evan Sacks, Darren Bagert, Adam Mackie, Kenneth Schur and Maxine Paul, with the Menier Chocoalte Factory acting as executive producer and general manager for the London run.
