Royal Welsh College appoints Helena Gaunt as principal
The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama has appointed Helena Gaunt as its new principal.
Gaunt replaces Hilary Boulding, who left the Cardiff drama school last year after a decade, to become president of Trinity College, Oxford.
Gaunt joins RWCMD from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she is vice principal and director of innovation.
She takes over as principal at RWCMD, from interim principal George Caird, in September.
Gaunt said: “Already established as a world-class institution in Wales with an outstanding performance programme and education opportunities, the stage is set to extend the college’s impact both in Wales and internationally.
“There is now an opportunity to further enhance the key role the college plays in the growth of the creative industries, helping to power artistic quality and cultural innovation, and widening access to creative education.”
