Royal and Derngate to stage UK premiere of Katori Hall’s Our Lady of Kibeho
Katori Hall’s Our Lady of Kibeho will receive its UK premiere at the Royal and Derngate in Northampton.
The production will be directed by the Royal and Derngate’s artistic director, James Dacre, and will run at the venue from January 12 to February 2, 2019.
The play premiered in 2014 in New York, with the Wall Street Journal labeling it “the most important play of the year”.
It focuses on students in Rwanda in 1981, who claim to have seen a vision of the Virgin Mary, warning them of events that will make their country “hell on earth”.
Dacre previously directed Hall’s The Mountaintop, which won the Olivier award for best new play in 2010.
Cast and creative team for the play have yet to be announced.
