Oxford’s North Wall sets up emerging theatre company award
Oxford’s North Wall Arts Centre has announced a new award to support emerging theatre companies.
The Alchymy Company Award will help one theatre company develop and showcase a new piece of work at the North Wall’s 2019 Alchymy Festival.
Ten applications will be shortlisted and will receive feedback from a judging panel that includes arts journalist Lyn Gardner, Alchymy Festival producer Ellie Keel and North Wall co-directors Ria Parry and John Hoggarth.
The winning company, announced in November, will receive two weeks of free rehearsal space at the North Wall with accommodation and meals included for up to eight company members. This will take place in the run-up to Alchymy Festival in April 2019.
The company will then showcase its work on the Alchymy Festival’s main stage, and receive a 50:50 box office split.
The North Wall will also give the company £1,500 towards the cost of the show, contributions towards travel expenses and artistic, technical and dramaturgical support.
Parry said: “The North Wall has always supported emerging companies through our ArtsLab programme, but this new award formalises and increases our offer to one company to rehearse in residence at the North Wall and be part of a hugely exciting festival of new work.”
Gardner added: “It’s tough being an emerging company, and this award is a bold new initiative to create and support an ongoing relationship between the North Wall and the winning company.”
The deadline for applications is October 1, 12pm.
