Nuffield Southampton Theatres executive director Caroline Routh to step down

Nuffield Southampton Theatres executive director Caroline Routh is stepping down after three years.

When she joined in 2015, she was part of a new management structure that introduced the executive director post.

She was appointed to work in partnership with artistic director Sam Hodges, who said at the time she would help him lead the venue’s “ambitious cultural regeneration plans for the city”.

Now, the organisation said that she had decided to move on to new opportunities, having overseen the opening of the new £30 million city-centre building NST City.

“I’ve loved working at NST over the past three years and am hugely proud to have been part of the team responsible for opening Southampton’s new theatre. I’m looking forward to seeing it going from strength to strength in the future,” she said.

Hodges said the organisation would “never have navigated the complexities of opening our new theatre without her”.

“I’m extremely grateful to her for everything she’s done for Nuffield Southampton Theatres and wish her well,” he added.

Routh leaves with immediate effect, and an interim structure will be put in place at the theatre.
