Nick Starr, the co-founder of the Bridge Theatre in London, has been announced as the new chair of the board for the Yard Theatre in east London.

Starr established the Bridge Theatre in London Bridge with Nicholas Hytner in 2017. He previously led the National Theatre with Hytner and has also been executive director at the Almeida Theatre in London. He was previously chair of both the Bush Theatre and Battersea Arts Centre.

He begins the post immediately, and is taking over from Robin Saphra.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team at the Yard Theatre,” Starr said.

“In the seven years since it opened, the Yard has become one of the most exciting and important theatres in London. I look forward to playing a part in its next chapter.”

Artistic director Jay Miller and executive director Sam Hansford said: “We’re delighted to welcome Nick Starr as our new chair of the board.

“He is such an inspiring pioneer in British theatre. He joins us at an incredibly exciting moment for the organisation. We can’t wait to work with him.”
