Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts is naming its sixth-form college’s studio theatre after playwright Willy Russell.
The new studio will officially be unveiled on June 21.
Russell, whose plays include Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine, said: “For me, to have my name associated with a theatre specifically created to house the experimentation, discovery. struggle, triumph, creative failure and success of the young is a great honour, one that I am deeply proud and delighted to accept.”
The sixth form opened in 2016 and provides two-year courses in creative and performing arts.
