West Yorkshire Playhouse’s production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe  has broken the venue’s box office records, taking more than £1.5 million in ticket sales.
Co-produced with Elliott and Harper Productions, the company launched by Marianne Elliott and Chris Harper, and Catherine Schreiber, the show has overtaken the previous record of 60,821 tickets sold, which has stood since 2005.
It is now the highest-grossing production in West Yorkshire Playhouse’s 48-year history, taking more than £1.5 million with a week left to run.
West Yorkshire Playhouse artistic director James Brining said: “We are delighted with the popularity of the show, and pleased that throughout the run we’ve been able to offer a range of ticket prices.”
He said a total of 22,000 people will have seen the production for £14 or less.
The show, directed by Sally Cookson, runs until January 27.
