Jonathan Bailey and Alex Gaumond join cast of gender-swapped Company
Jonathan Bailey and Alex Gaumond have been announced as the final cast members for Marianne Elliott’s forthcoming production of Company.
Bailey will play Jamie – the role of Amy in the original show – with Gaumond as his fiance Paul, meaning the musical will feature a same-sex couple for the first time.
Bailey said: “You literally do not have to change a word and suddenly you have a really honest, searing presentation of a man who is treading water between queer culture and the heteronormative ideal of marriage. That contradiction and debate is so relevant right now.”
Also joining the cast is Daisy Maywood as Susan.
They join a cast that is led by Rosalie Craig in the gender-swapped role of Bobbie, who stars alongside Patti LuPone, Mel Giedroyc, George Blagden and Matthew Seadon-Young.
Company runs at the Gielgud Theatre in the West End from September 26, with press night on October 16.
Producers include Elliott and Harper Productions, Catherine Schreiber, Grove Entertainment and Jujamcyn Theaters.
