The JMK Award for emerging directors has announced it is moving to the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond after seven years at the Young Vic.
At this new home, the award will offer one director the opportunity to direct a full-scale production each year.
The award forms part of the national programme for the JMK Trust, which was set up in memory of director James Menzies-Kitchin who died unexpectedly at the age of 28.
JMK Trust chair Stephen Fewell said: “The Orange Tree has a longstanding commitment to developing directing talent – it’s part of the building’s DNA, so we are thrilled that together we are able to announce a new and unique opportunity for early career directors.”
Paul Miller, artistic director of the Orange Tree Theatre, said the ethos of the JMK Award, and its commitment to nurturing emerging talent was “very much at the heart of what the Orange Tree is all about”.
“We look forward to supporting, enabling and celebrating the new directors we welcome here,” he added.
The deadline for applications for the JMK Award is January 30, with details on how to apply available here .
