Injury forces Royal Academy of Dance chief to step down
Paula Hunt, artistic director of the Royal Academy of Dance, is stepping down due to ill health.
Hunt took over the position in 2016, however she will depart in May of this year because of complications that occurred as a result of major surgery to her foot.
Hunt said the physical limitations imposed by her injury have compromised her ability to deliver in the role, which alongside leadership responsibilities includes the creation and maintenance of the RAD’s exam syllabuses and input in classes.
She said: “The role of artistic director at the RAD is of course about artistic vision and integrity, however, it is also a very visible and physical role. My injury does not enable me to carry it out in the way in which I would like and, more importantly, the way the academy deserves.”
RAD chief executive Luke Rittner praised Hunt’s passion and commitment to the role and to teaching.
The process of appointing a successor will begin shortly, with plans also being put in place for the interim period.
