Cheek by Jowl’s Eleanor Lang has been appointed executive director of Theatre Royal Stratford East.
She joins on October 1 from Cheek by Jowl, where she has been executive director since 2015 .
Lang has been appointed by artistic director Nadia Fall, with whom she will be jointly responsible for the strategic leadership of the theatre.
Fall said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Eleanor Lang will be joining us at Stratford East. Eleanor’s experience of leading creative and progressive arts organisations will be a brilliant asset to the theatre as we move forward into an exciting future. I am really looking forward to working with her to lead the team at Stratford East.”
Lang was previously general manager at the Bush Theatre and at Y Touring Theatre Company. She has also worked at Battersea Arts Centre, the Donmar Warehouse and as a freelance producer.
She has replaced Deborah Sawyerr, who was one of a number of high-profile departures following Fall’s appointment.
Margaret Hodge, chair of the theatre’s board, praised Lang’s “impressive credentials as a leader in the arts”.
“With artistic director Nadia Fall they will make a formidable team to steer this historic theatre into the future,” she added.
Nadia Fall’s first season  opens with Lope de Vega’s The Village reimagined by April de Angelis, in September.
