Cush Jumbo to host The Stage Debut Awards
Cush Jumbo is to host The Stage Debut Awards 2018 in association with Access Entertainment, with presenters also including Adrian Lester and Mathew Horne.
Jumbo, whose stage credits including her self-written show Josephine and I and Common at the National Theatre, has most recently starred in the US drama series The Good Fight alongside Christine Baranski.
She will host The Stage Debut Awards on September 23, which celebrate breakthrough talent in theatre, from actors, directors and playwrights, to designers, composers and lyricists.
Jumbo said: “I’m thrilled to be hosting the second The Stage Debut Awards this year. I’m very passionate about the continuing need to support emerging talent and champion our rising stars whether they be actors, directors, writers or designers. These awards celebrate new voices in a huge way.”
Alongside Jumbo will be a number of presenters, including actors Lester and Horne, as well as Jodie Prenger, Preeya Kalidas and Ruthie Henshall. Playwright James Graham, lighting designer Paule Constable and director Michael Grandage will also give out awards on the night.
The ceremony, which will take place in central London, will also feature exclusive performances from Anais Mitchell, the creator of the National Theatre’s forthcoming musical Hadestown, performing Why We Build the Wall from that show, and last year’s best actress in a musical winner Miriam-Teak Lee.
Lee will be performing I’m Here from The Color Purple.
The Stage Debut Awards will be live-streamed on The Stage’s Facebook page from 8.30pm on September 23.
Nominees include debut talent from shows across the UK, as well as more experienced performers making their West End debuts, such as Bryan Cranston, Kelli O’Hara and Aidan Turner.
