Christopher Wheeldon to choreograph new Cinderella billed as a “ballet spectacular”

Christopher Wheeldon will choreograph a new production of Cinderella that will feature more than 90 dancers and is being billed as “the ballet spectacular of 2019”.

The production is co-produced by English National Ballet and the Royal Albert Hall, where it will run in-the-round from June 6 to 16 next year.

ENB announced the production today as part of its new season.

The season also includes a second showcase of all-female choreography following on from the She Said programme in 2016. She Persisted will be staged at Sadler’s Wells, running from April 2 to 13, 2019. It will feature Nora, a new work by Stina Quagebeur, based on Ibsen’s A Doll’s House.

She Persisted will also feature Pina Bausch’s Le Sacre du printemps and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Broken Wings.

Elsewhere, ENB will bring back Lest We Forget [1], running at Sadler’s Wells in September this year, to commemorate the end of the First World War.

On tour, ENB will produce Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon and Derek Deane’s Swan Lake.

Both will also be staged at the London Coliseum in January, 2019.

ENB’s Nutcracker will also return to the London Coliseum at Christmas, having run previously in 2016 and 2017.

ENB has also announced funding from Arts Council England of £3 million towards its new home in Canning [2] Town.

The building will house both the ENB and the ENB School and include “digital infrastructure” that will allow ENB to “capture and share work”.
