Chris Lawson named acting artistic director of Oldham Coliseum

Oldham Coliseum associate director Chris Lawson has become acting artistic director, following the departure of Kevin Shaw [1].

Shaw was also chief executive, a role that is being carried out by executive director Jenny Langlands on an interim basis.

Lawson, who joined Oldham Coliseum in 2015 from the Almeida Theatre in London, said he was looking forward to working with the “rest of the team here to continue and build upon our excellent work on stage”.

For the Coliseum, Lawson has previously directed Tom Wells’ The Kitchen Sink [2] and Stephen Jeffreys’ adaptation of Hard Times [3].

Shaw left in November to pursue a freelance career in directing. His last production at the Coliseum was the theatre’s annual pantomime, which he directed for the 16th year running.

Last month, Oldham Coliseum’s plans for a new £27 million home were scrapped [4], after the local council said it was reviewing its costs.
