by -

Kate Fleetwood, Charles Edwards, Jenny Galloway and Jonathan Slinger have been cast in Absolute Hell at the National Theatre.

Rodney Ackland’s play will be revived at the National 23 years after it was last performed there, and will run in the Lyttelton directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins.

The ensemble cast also includes Esh Alladi, Joanna David, Patricia England, Aaron Heffernan, Lloyd Hutchinson and Martins Imhangbe, with Stephanie Jacob, Prasanna Puwanarajah, Anita Reynolds, John Sackville, Liza Sadovy, Eileen Walsh and Danny Webb completing the company.

Set in a Soho den following the Second World War, the provocative Absolute Hell was condemned as a “libel on the British people” when it premiered in 1952.

The revival will be designed by Lizzie Clachan, with lighting by Jon Clark, sound by Paul Arditti and costumes by Nicky Gillibrand.

Movement is by Jenny Ogilvie and musical direction by Harvey Brough.

It runs from April 18 to May 23, with press night on April 25. Additional performances are to be announced.
