Anna-Jane Casey, Fern Britton and Ruth Madoc to tour in reworked Calendar Girls musical
Anna-Jane Casey, Fern Britton, Lorraine Bruce and Ruth Madoc are to star in a reworked version of Gary Barlow and Tim Firth’s Calendar Girls musical.
Originally named The Girls, opening with a run in Leeds and Manchester in 2015 before playing in the West End last year, the new version of the show is called Calendar Girls the Musical and will begin a tour of the UK in August this year.
Others in the cast are Denise Welch, Sara Crowe and Rebecca Storm.
Firth, who has written the book for the show based on his own movie of the same name, said: “To be given a chance to revisit Calendar Girls the Musical is a unique opportunity. Gary and I have been working away and, as the great Stephen Sondheim said, musical comedies aren’t written they are rewritten.”
The show is produced by David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers, and opens at the Leeds Grand on August 16, before playing at venues including Newcastle Theatre Royal and the Lowry in Salford.
