Shakespeare’s Globe artistic director Michelle Terry is to star with her real-life husband Paul Ready in Macbeth.

Macbeth will open the theatre’s winter season and is directed by Robert Hastie. Terry plays Lady Macbeth, with Ready – currently starring in Bodyguard on BBC1 – playing Macbeth.

Others in the cast include Catrin Aaron, Marc Elliott and Kirsty Rider. The play runs from November 7 to February 2, with press night on November 14.

The winter season also includes Doctor Faustus, starring Father Ted actor Pauline McLynn as Mephistopheles, running from December 1 to February 2, 2019.

This will be directed by Paulette Randall.

The final production of the winter season, where shows are staged in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, will be Richard II.

It will be co-directed by Adjoa Andoh and Lynette Linton, with Adjoa at Richard II. It runs from February 22, 2019 to April 21.

Terry also revealed plans for the venue to stage a cycle of history plays – Henry IV, Henry V, Henry VI and Richard III.

“As the UK approaches its exit of the EU, our theatre will present a cycle of history plays, providing a unique opportunity to rediscover how Shakespeare perceived ‘this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England’. Richard II in this year’s winter season begins a year-long exploration of what our sceptered isle looks like now, presenting a journey through history via Henry IV, Henry V, Henry VI, and Richard III,” she said.
