Channel 5’s broadcasts of Elf – The Musical starring Ben Forster were watched by more than 800,000 people, with 4 million tuning into Mischief Theatre’s A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong on the BBC.

Elf, which was filmed live during its run at the Lowry in Salford, pulled in 516,000 viewers on December 23, with a repeat on Christmas Day pulling in 326,000. In total, 842,000 saw the broadcast.

Meanwhile, Mischief Theatre’s A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong was seen by 4 million viewers during its original broadcast on BBC1 on January 31.

The Stage reviewed both of this year’s broadcasts, calling A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong [1] a “wonderfully warped take on Dickens” and “a lovely end-of-year treat”. Elf [2]’s director, Morgan Young, was criticised however for the “plodding scenes between the songs and the long, plodding songs between the scenes”.
