Wendy Spon, the National Theatre’s head of casting, is leaving the role after 12 years.

Spon leaves in March 2018 to pursue a freelance casting career.

She has held the head of casting post at the National since 2006, during which time she has cast shows including the original production of London Road and its adaptation for the screen.

Announcing her departure, Spon said: “The NT is a wonderful place to be a casting director and I’ve had 12 fantastic years heading up the department, but it’s time for a change and time for someone else to undertake one of the best jobs in theatre.”

During her career, Spon has worked across theatre, television and film, including stints at the Royal Exchange Theatre and Sheffield Theatres.

The NT is currently recruiting a replacement.
