Tricycle announces first co-production with National Theatre

Francis Turnly's play The Great Wave will run at the National Theatre in 2018

The Tricycle Theatre in London has announced a new season of work, including its first co-production with the National Theatre.

The Great Wave by Francis Turnly will open at the National Theatre in spring 2018. The play won the Catherine Johnson Award in 2016, and Turnly was Channel 4 playwright in residence in 2015. It will be directed by Tricycle artistic director Indhu Rubasingham.

Mikel Murfi will revive his production of The Man in the Woman’s Shoes, which played at the theatre last year. It will run in repertoire with Murfi’s new play I Hear You and Rejoice in the Tricycle cinema space.

The Tricycle is currently undergoing a multi-million pound redevelopment, with the theatre’s main house reopening in spring 2018.

The cinema space will also host Inua Ellams’ touring show An Evening With an Immigrant and comedy nights from Upfront Comedy.

Moira Buffini’s play Handbagged, which premiered at the Tricycle in 2013, will receive its US premiere at the Round House Theatre in Washington DC in January 2018.
