Strictly Ballroom the Musical to debut in West End
Strictly Ballroom the Musical is to debut in the West End at the Piccadilly Theatre.
Drew McOnie is to direct and choreograph the musical, which will open on April 11, 2018, with previews from March 16.
Strictly Ballroom the Musical premiered at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2016.
The musical is based on Baz Luhrmann’s 1992 film Strictly Ballroom, and has a book by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce. It features music from the original film.
Casting for the production is yet to be announced.
Carmen Pavlovic, chief executive of Global Creatures, which is producing the show, said “I’m thrilled that we are bringing Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom the Musical to the West End. The film’s irresistible heart and humour were immediately embraced around the world and 25 years later remains a beloved title.
“We are delighted that audiences can now enjoy live on stage the uplifting story of how one boy following his heart, triumphs over oppression and changes the lives of everyone around him for the better.”
Strictly Ballroom the Musical is currently booking until July 21, 2018.
