Casting directory Spotlight has announced a partnership with the membership body that represents voice artists allowing them to subscribe to the castings service for the first time.

The VoiceOver Network, established in 2013, is an organisation that hosts networking and workshop events to bring together voice-over actors with agents, producers and casting directors.

Under its new collaboration with Spotlight, the casting directory will list voice artists with acting credits for the first time. It will also be adapting its application process, recognising video game, audiobook and animation work as acting credits.

Applicants must be trained working professionals with previous acting credits to gain a profile on Spotlight, and will pay the standard fee of £150 a year to be listed on the site.

The two organisations have said they wish to “elevate the profile” of professional voice actors in the UK, allowing them to gain more exposure.

The VoiceOver Network has also said more support was needed for the industry, calling it an often isolated existence. It added that with the rise in audio-visual online media and the gaming industry, voice-over actors need increasingly more backing.

Rachael Naylor, founder of the VoiceOver Network, said: “As a fellow membership organisation, we share Spotlight’s vision of promoting the industry’s best and promoting professionalism in a fast-moving sector of the entertainment world. Working together with Spotlight we can help and support more professional voice actors as well as raising standards within the wider voice-over industry.”

Spotlight also said that it was looking forward to supporting professional voice work and its “increasing prominence” in the industry.
