Samuel West to star in Julius Caesar at Sheffield Theatres
Samuel West is to play Brutus in an upcoming production of Julius Caesar at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre.
The actor was previously artistic director of Sheffield Theatres between 2005 and 2007. He will be joined by Elliot Cowan as Mark Antony, Chipo Chung as Portia and Octavius, Jonathan Hyde as Julius Caesar and Zoe Waites as Cassius.
Robert Hastie will direct, and this will be his first production as artistic director of the venue. He took up the post in July 2016, succeeding Daniel Evans in the role.
When announcing the season, Hastie stated that the production would have a diverse and gender-balanced cast.
Other cast members include Lisa Caruccio Came, Pandora Colin, Robert Goodale, Alison Halstead, Mark Holgate, Arthur Hughes, Robinah Kironde, Lily Nichol, Royce Pierreson, Abigail Thaw and Paul Tinto.
Design is by Ben Stones, lighting by Johanna Town and sound by Emma Laxton. The composer is Richard Taylor.
The production runs from May 17 to June 10, with press night on May 23.
