Sam Bailey and Elaine C Smith join Fat Friends musical
Sam Bailey and Elaine C Smith have joined the cast of Kay Mellor’s Fat Friends – The Musical.
Bailey, who won The X Factor in 2013, will share the role of Betty with Smith, who is known for her roles in comedies Two Doors Down and Rab C Nesbitt.
They join the previously announced Jodie Prenger in the musical, which premieres at Leeds Grand Theatre in November before touring.
The show is based on Mellor’s long-running TV sitcom Fat Friends, which she has adapted for the stage with composer Nicholas Lloyd Webber.
The production will be directed by Mellor.
It has design by Bretta Gerecke, lighting by Nick Richings, sound by Gareth Owen and musical supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Simon Lee.
The show opens in Leeds on November 7, before touring to venues including the Churchill Theatre in Bromley, Newcastle Theatre Royal, the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, Norwich Theatre Royal, Edinburgh Playhouse, the Millennium Centre in Cardiff and Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, where it closes on June 2, 2018.
It is produced by Joshua Andrews and Adam Spiegel.
