RADA graduate to make West End debut in Hamilton title role

Actor Jamael Westman, who only graduated from RADA last year, has landed the title role of Alexander Hamilton in the London transfer of the Broadway musical.

Westman, who appeared in The White Devil at Shakespeare’s Globe, will make his West End debut in the show that landed 11 Tony Awards.

Michael Jibson, whose theatre credits include Roots at London’s Donmar Warehouse, will also join the cast.

He will play King George in the production, which tells the story of America’s founding father.

Ash Hunter, whose credits include Light Shining in Buckinghamshire at the National Theatre, will also play the role of Alexander Hamilton in certain performances.

Previews are due to begin on November 21 this year at the Victoria Palace theatre in London, which will reopen with Hamilton following a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Press night will be on December 7.

Westman and Jibson join the previously announced Christine Allado, Rachelle Ann Go, Tarinn Callender, Rachel John, Jason Pennycooke, Cleve September, Giles Terera and Obioma Ugoala.

They are joined by the newly announced Jade Albertsen, Curtis Angus, Jonathan Bishop, Courtney-Mae Briggs, and Jack Butterworth.

Jon-Scott Clark, Kelly Downing, Leslie Garcia Bowman, Lia Given, Greg Haney, Leah Hill, Barney Hudson, Waylon Jacobs, and Miriam-Teak Lee have also been announced to join the cast.

Further new casting includes Phoebe Liberty, Alexzandra Sarmiento, Marsha Songcome, Christopher Tendaiand Lindsey Tierney.

Hamilton is produced in London by Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs, Jill Furman, The Public Theater and Cameron Mackintosh.

Book, music and lyrics are by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail directs, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire.

Final casting will be announced at a later date.
