Ian McKellen is to star in a one-man show at London’s Park Theatre to raise money for the venue.

Shakespeare, Tolkien, Others and You will see the veteran actor reprise many of his stage and screen roles, including Macbeth and Gandalf the wizard from the Lord of the Rings films. He will also discuss his work with other notable actors and directors.

Audience members will be able to ask questions and participate in the performances.

The show will be accompanied by an exhibition of posters, paintings and photographs from McKellen’s career, some of which will be available to buy.

Tickets for the show start at £85, with a special gala performance costing £145. There will be a limited number of day seats priced at £10.

McKellen said: “In a short time the theatre has established itself on both the theatrical and local maps. But with no public subsidy for core costs they need to bring in donations of around £250,000 every year just to keep the doors open. The monies raised from the higher ticket prices for this production will support their core ambition of producing accessible theatre throughout the coming years and furthering their work with the local community.”

It runs from July 3 to 9.
