The Lyric Hammersmith theatre in London has announced a partnership with Digital Theatre’s education arm, in a bid to widen access to the process of theatremaking.

Digital Theatre Plus is a platform that provides streamed films of theatre productions for educational use in schools and universities.

This digital collaboration will have experts share their knowledge through discussions and workshops and offer behind-the-scenes footage at the theatre. It will also create digital learning resources for students and promote creative education in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

Its first project will follow the making of The Seagull at the Lyric Hammersmith, which opens October 11, documenting its creation from early development to opening night.

The films and documentaries created will be available through the Lyric’s website and through the Digital Theatre Plus site, along with its filmed masterclasses in theatre practice.

Local schools will receive discounted access to Digital Theatre’s subscription services, as well as opportunities to attend screenings and talks at the Lyric.

Executive director for the Lyric Hammersmith, Sian Alexander, said: “We are excited for the potential of this creative collaboration, which is enabled by the fantastic new facilities in our recently extended and refurbished building, and we look forward to continuing to develop this partnership over a number of years.”
