London’s Theatre503 announces writers’ residency winners
London fringe venue Theatre503 has announced the latest cohort of its writers’ residency programme.
The 503Five resident writers for 2017/18 are Mahad Ali, Christopher Hogg, Yasmin Joseph, Ross Willis and Aisha Zia.
Each will be on attachment to Theatre503, which specialises in new writing, for a period of 18 months, and will also receive a seed commission, a series of masterclasses and opportunities to stage their work.
They will also get an industry mentor as well as support from the theatre’s literary team and artistic director, Lisa Spirling.
Winners were selected from more than 450 applicants.
The scheme has been running since 2009, supporting five writers each year. Previous participants have included Chris Urch, Jon Brittain, Charlene James and Vinay Patel.
Spirling said: “503 and I are thrilled to welcome these talented emerging writers into the heart of the building. These five writers’ voices could not be more different, but all share skill, passion, fantastic ideas and the desire to fully realise their potential. We can’t wait to welcome them to 503 and for us to do all we can to enable and celebrate their brilliance.”
