James Phelps, known for his role as Fred Weasley in the Harry Potter film franchise, writer and broadcaster Yasmeen Khan and The Stage’s careers adviser John Byrne  are among the judges for a new playwriting bursary.
The Adam Morley Sponsor a Playwright Bursary is being launched this year, and has been set up as a new opportunity for writers from diverse backgrounds.
It has been launched by director and writer Adam Morley, artistic director of touring company Baroque Theatre and executive producer of Actor Awareness, which promotes diversity in the arts.
The winner will be awarded a £1,000 bursary to develop their winning script to production in 2018.
The bursary has a blind submission process, which aims to encourage equal opportunities and make the award accessible to a diverse pool of applicants.
Fifteen plays have been shortlisted for the inaugural year, and will now go before the judging panel.
The panel also includes Lola Williams, director of acting agency New Wonder Management; Emma Taylor, artistic director of Canal Cafe Theatre in London; and theatre publicist Chris Hislop .
The shortlist and winner will be announced later in the year.
