Geoffrey Brown is to take over the running of independent theatres website OffWestEnd.com, which also runs the Off West End Awards.
He will replace founder and director Sofie Mason and fellow director Diana Jervis-Read, who are ending their involvement with the website and the awards, also known as the Offies, after a decade.
OffWestEnd.com acts as a campaigning website for independent theatres in London, with the awards celebrating Off-West End productions.
In an interview with The Stage, Mason said: “We’ve used all the skills we had to progress it, but it needs another set now. It needs a business plan and commercial nous.”
Plans for the future include introducing new categories in the Offies and potentially expanding the site’s reach outside the capital.
Mason and Jervis will continue their involvement with the charitable arm of the operation, which includes the Adopt a Playwright award. This gives a writer £8,000 to fund the development of a new play.
Brown will take over from April 23, following a winners’ celebration for the 2017 Offies in London.
