Boy Blue Entertainment to create Gladiator-themed immersive production
Hip-hop dance company Boy Blue Entertainment has announced an immersive performance of dance and digital animation that will take place this October.
Blood Rite is a site-specific work that uses motion-tracking technology to create a gladiator game experience. With choreography created in workshops led by gladiator experts, the production will be staged in Guildhall Yard in London.
The performance will feature as part of Londinium festival, a three month season of events to celebrate London's Roman heritage, organised by the City of London corporation.
BBE is collaborating with video designers from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama on this project, which will take place on October 20 and 21.
Executive director of Boy Blue Entertainment, Jo Stendall, said: “We wanted to use the motion tracking technology to help bring the experience to life. The idea came from our partnership with Guildhall students; we wanted to experiment with technology and the scope of fight choreography to really bring it to life. It is a particularly bespoke piece of work.”
The festival will also feature a secretive sound-based performance, Dark Earth, produced by David Rosenberg, in which people will receive an email on the day telling them where and when to go.
Through downloading an app, the performance, which is streamed through headphones, promises to transport people “from the modern-day bustling streets of London to Londinium, an ancient Roman civilisation”. It will run from October 22 to 29.
Virtual reality experience Hallucinatio, created by technical theatre students at Guildhall school, will also feature in the festival, along with the Lost City of London exhibition, which will trace the historical origins of the city.
