Tobacco Factory’s Ali Robertson joins Kneehigh
Tobacco Factory Theatres director Ali Robertson has been named executive producer of Kneehigh, replacing Paul Crewes.
Crewes is leaving the Cornwall-based theatre company after a decade to join Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts in Los Angeles as artistic director.
Robertson, who has been director of Tobacco Factory Theatres since 2007, will work alongside Kneehigh’s artistic director Mike Shepherd. He will develop new and existing partnerships across the sector and help to grow the theatre company’s touring programme.
Shepherd said he was sad that Crewes was leaving the UK but praised Robertson’s reputation for “making things happen”.
Robertson said: “I am enormously excited by the prospect of joining a much-loved company whose name is synonymous with passionate, skilful and exciting theatre. I look forward to working with Mike Shepherd and other brilliant Kneehigh artists to develop a new generation of wonderful work both at home in Cornwall and nationally and internationally.”
Shepherd was announced as the sole artistic director of Kneehigh in January, after Emma Rice’s departure to join Shakespeare’s Globe.
