Sarah-Louise Young and Delme Thomas among final winners of The Stage Edinburgh Awards

Performers Sarah-Louise Young and Delme Thomas are among the final winners of this year’s The Stage Edinburgh Awards.

They join theatre company RashDash and performers Matthew Blake, Seiriol Davies and Dylan Townley in receiving prizes as part of the fourth week of the awards.

Cabaret artist Young won for La Poule Plombee at the Voodoo Rooms, one of three shows she is performing in at the festival.

Critic Paul Vale said she brought a “whole new meaning to the phrase triple threat”.

Young said she was thrilled to win the prize, which she added she was sharing with her co-writer Michael Roulston.

“We hope this award will help us to reach new audiences and keep La Poule on the road for many years,” she added.

RashDash won for Two Man Show at Summerhall, a venue which has enjoyed immense success at this year’s festival, leading the way in the Fringe First Awards and the Total Theatre Awards.

The Stage reviews editor Natasha Tripney said RashDash, comprising performers Abbi Greenland and Helen Goalen, had been making “some of the most distinctive dance-theatre on the fringe for a number of years”.

“This piece is their strongest to date. Two Man Show is an exhilarating, energising, intelligently messy piece about patriarchy, feminism and the limitations of language. One of my favourite things of this year’s fringe,” she added.

Blake, Davies and Townley were acknowledged for How to Win Against History at Assembly.

Reviewer Stewart Pringle said the show was one of the very best at this year’s festival.

“It’s a joyous celebration of defiant oddity performed by a defiantly odd and universally brilliant ensemble,” he said.

Thomas’ award was for Saturday Night Forever at Underbelly, which has won a total of three prizes over the past four weeks of The Stage Edinburgh Awards.

Reviewer Nick Awde called his performance “supremely focused”, adding: “He created the entire world and characters of his narrative through the cadences of his voice and connected impressively with the audience.”

Thomas said: “I’ve never won an award and this is brilliant. I’m proud of this, too, because of all the people who have worked on the show – and so long as the audiences appreciate the work we’re all doing we know we’re doing it right.”
