ITV3 is to broadcast the Olivier Awards ceremony in full the day after the event.

In addition, its flagship channel will show highlights on the day of the awards on April 3.

The full ceremony will be shown on ITV3 on April 4 at 11pm, with highlights shown on ITV1 on April 3 at 10.15pm.

Both broadcasts will be available on catch up for the following 30 days.

It marks a major step forward for the ceremony, as there have been repeated calls from theatregoers and industry figures to have the entire ceremony shown on television.

The ceremony will also be broadcast live on Mellow Magic, Magic Radio’s new spin-off station. In addition to the ceremony, Mellow Magic will broadcast a four-part documentary celebrating 40 years of the Olivier Awards, narrated by Imelda Staunton.

International audiences will be able to watch the full broadcast on the Olivier Awards YouTube channel from 10pm on April 3.

The awards, which will take place at the Royal Opera House, will be hosted by Michael Ball.

The first 10 guests that will feature at the event have also been announced. They include Matthew Bourne, Sharon D Clarke,  Julia McKenzie, Lesley Manville, Vanessa Redgrave, Juliet Stevenson and Zoe Wanamaker.
