Cameron Mackintosh’s revival of Miss Saigon will open on Broadway in March next year, running in the same theatre where the musical originally ran in New York.

The Boublil and Schonberg show will run at the Broadway Theatre from March 1, and will feature Eva Noblezada as Kim and Jon Jon Briones as The Engineer. Both appeared in the West End production.

Miss Saigon will have its opening night on March 23 and play until January 14, 2018. It will then tour North America.

Mackintosh said: “It’s hard to believe that it has been 25 years since Miss Saigon first opened in New York, but if anything, the tragic love story of the show has become even more relevant today with the conflicts in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. This new production, directed by Laurence Connor, takes a grittier, more realistic approach than the original production while still delivering the power and epic sweep of Boublil and Schonberg’s tremendous score.”

He added: “I am delighted that our wonderful London stars, Jon Jon Briones and Eva Noblezada, will be bringing their stunning performances across the Atlantic.”

The revival production of Miss Saigon opened in London in May 2014. The 25th anniversary performance is to be broadcast to cinemas in October.
