Mark Strong and Hope Davis have been cast as the leads in David Hare’s new play The Red Barn at the National Theatre.

Directed by Robert Icke, the production will run in the venue’s Lyttelton Theatre from October 6 to January 17, with a press night on October 17. However, additional performances are still to be announced.

The play marks the first time Strong has appeared onstage at the theatre since 1997, when he starred in Patrick Marber’s Closer, while Tony-nominated Davis will be making her UK stage debut.

Design will be by Bunny Christie, with lighting by Paule Constable, video design by Tim Reid and sound by Tom Gibbons.

Further casting will be announced later in the summer.
