A musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox forms part of the new season at Nuffield in Southampton.

The season also features the world premiere of a new play by Nick Dear, about Shakespeare’s relationship with the third earl of Southampton.

Fantastic Mr Fox is written by Sam Holcroft and has music by Darren Clark, who has also co-written the lyrics with Holcroft and Ali Muriel.

The show is a co-commission with Curve in Leicester and will be directed by Maria Aberg, with design by Tom Scutt.

It runs from November 7 to January 8, 2017.

Dear’s as yet untitled play runs from September 9 to October 8 and is directed by Nuffield artistic director Sam Hodges.

Hodges said the new play “unpicks the mystery around Southampton’s role in the life of our greatest writer”.
