Kevin Kennedy is to star in the UK tour of The Commitments, which begins in October.

The former Coronation Street actor will play Jimmy’s Da in the musical, which also features West End cast member Brian Gilligan and Andrew Linnie.

The show, which closed in the West End in May 2015, opens in Bromley in October before visiting 23 other locations including Nottingham, Sheffield, Oxford, Belfast, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Cardiff.

The tour will run until May 13, 2017, when it closes in Bradford.

Amy Penston, Leah Penston, Christina Tedders, Sam Fordham, Peter Mooney, Padraig Dooney and John Currivan also feature in the cast, alongside Rhys Whitfield, Alex McMorran and Christian James.

The Commitments is based on the novel of the same name by Roddy Doyle, who said: “The Commitments were born in Dublin, moved to London, and will soon be hopping all over the shop. I wrote the novel – invented the characters – in 1986, and it thrills me to think that they will be entertaining audiences throughout the UK and Ireland 30 years later, in 2016.”

The Commitments is directed by C Jay Ranger and produced by Phil McIntyre Entertainments.
