Young dancers aged 16 to 21 are encouraged to apply for the second year of a BBC competition that aims to discover the next generation of talent.

The BBC Young Dancer 2017 initiative will see dancers compete in four categories: ballet, contemporary, South Asian dance, or street dance.

A winner from each category, and up to two wild cards, will earn a place in the grand final, taking place at Sadler’s Wells and broadcast on BBC2.

In addition, the early stages of the competition, through to the final, will be filmed and shown on BBC4, including a documentary on each dance form.

BBC head of music television commissioning Jan Younghusband said: “BBC Young Dancer has put dance centre stage on our screens, and we are thrilled to continue the search for the next generation of dance talent.”

Dancers can apply for the award by downloading the entry brochure from the website.

Last year’s award was won by contemporary dancer Connor Scott, aged 17.
