All-star cast announced for Globe’s The Complete Walk film series
Simon Russell Beale, Peter Capaldi, Dominic West and Hayley Atwell are among the first performers announced for Shakespeare’s Globe film series The Complete Walk.
Created to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the project will make 37 short films, one for each of Shakespeare’s plays.
The films will be shown on screens along a two-and-a-half mile stretch of London’s South Bank over the anniversary weekend in April.
Part of each 10-minute film will be new material, shot in the location where each play is originally set.
Russell Beale will play Timon in a scene from Timon of Athens, filmed in Greece, while Capaldi will play Titus Andronicus, filmed in Rome. West will film a scene from Coriolanus in Rome with Attwell as Innogen from Cymbeline, filmed in Milford Haven.
Zawe Ashton, Joseph Marcell and Kenneth Cranham will perform scenes from King Lear on the White Cliffs of Dover, while Luke Thompson and Jessie Buckley are to play Romeo and Juliet in the Tomba di Giulietta in Verona.
Olivia Williams and Susannah Fielding will play Olivia and Viola respectively from Twelfth Night, while Jonathan and Phoebe Pryce will take on the roles of Shylock and Jessica from The Merchant of Venice, filmed in the Venetian Ghetto.
Other performers taking part in the project include James Norton, Lindsay Duncan, Aidan Gillen, Joshua McGuire and Jamie Parker, alongside Meera Syal, Mel Giedroyc and Paul Chahidi.
Danny Sapani, Pauline McLynn, David Calder, and David and Tom Burke complete the initial casting, which covers 16 of the 37 short films.
The Complete Walks will take place on April 23 and 24 in London, before visiting several other locations including Liverpool and Santa Barbara in California.
