Veteran DJ John Peel is to receive a public farewell as he is laid to rest near his Suffolk home next week.
The funeral will be held at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, in Bury St Edmunds, on Friday, November 12 and the service will be open to members of the public. This will be followed by a private ceremony only for family and friends.
Peel, whose radio career spanned 40 years and was BBC Radio 1’s longest-serving DJ, died aged 65 after suffering a heart attack while on holiday in Peru with wife Sheila. His body was flown back to the UK on Monday night.
Tributes have been flooding in from across the industry and the public since his death last week. BBC2 have scheduled a tribute programme to Peel this Saturday at 10pm.
