All-star cast announced for Almeida’s Iliad reading

Simon Russell Beale, Lesley Manville and Rory Kinnear are among 60 actors performing in a reading of The Iliad, which takes place as part of the Almeida Theatre’s Greek season.

The durational reading, which begins at 9am on August 14 at the British Museum, will be live-streamed throughout the day on the Almeida’s website.

The event, which is expected to last more than 12 hours, culminates on stage at the north London theatre.

Directed by Almeida artistic director Rupert Goold alongside associate director Robert Icke, the reading also features performers such as Simon Callow, Mark Gatiss, Janet Suzman, Sinead Cusack and Brian Cox.

The performance is part of the theatre’s Greek season, which includes productions of Oresteia, Bakkhai and Medea as well as a programme of extra events.
