Kristin Scott Thomas and Beverley Knight among Hospital Club winners
Kristin Scott Thomas and Beverley Knight have been named among the 10 most innovative and inspiring people in theatre by London’s Hospital Club.
Designer Es Devlin and choreographer Drew McOnie are also named in the h.Club 100 list, which recognises excellence across the creative industries.
Paines Plough’s artistic directors James Grieve and George Perrin were a joint entry in the theatre top 10. Also included were playwright James Graham and producer Rachel Edwards – who was behind the West End staging of Sweeney Todd in a pop-up pie shop.
Architects Steve Tompkins and Graham Haworth were also lauded for their design of the new Liverpool Everyman building and the National Theatre’s recent redevelopment.
In total, 10 people from nine different sectors are recognised, including broadcast, film and music, as well as 10 rising stars from across the creative industries.
Nine winners in each category were picked from a shortlist by expert judges, while the 10th was decided by a public vote.
The winners were named at a ceremony at the Hospital Club on October 1, where north London arts centre Wac Arts received the h.Club Foundation award for its work with young people.
The Stage is media partner on the theatre and performance category, which was judged by Nimax Theatres chief executive Nica Burns, Punchdrunk choreographer Maxine Doyle, The Stage editor Alistair Smith and associate editor Mark Shenton.
