Kevin Spacey to receive special award at this year’s Oliviers
Kevin Spacey will be honoured for his contribution to British theatre at this year’s Olivier Awards.
The outgoing artistic director of the Old Vic will receive the special award, which will be presented at the ceremony on April 12 at the Royal Opera House in London.
Spacey steps down from his role as artistic director at the Old Vic later this year and will be succeeded by Matthew Warchus.
Caro Newling, president of the Society of London Theatre, which organises the awards, said: “The Society of London Theatre is delighted to formally acknowledge Kevin Spacey’s outstanding contribution to the Old Vic. In general his advocacy of London theatre has been a constant boon, and many of us will miss him as a valued colleague.”
Spacey became artistic director of the Old Vic in 2004.
